Elizabeth Anglin - Pet Telepath

Animal Communication and Reiki

Why do you do this?

I have always been an animal lover.  My father was a biologist who took me on field trips to view animals in the wild and taught me how to explore the world with the eye of an ecologist and naturalist.  Even as a child I wanted to do something to help the animals living around me, but it was never exactly clear what that "something" would be.  I spent hours each day after school exploring the animal life in the ponds, streams, fields and woods behind our small farm in Michigan.  I always had the sense that if I could train myself to "pay close attention" to the animals in their environment, I could someday help and protect them.

What is your training and background?

I was raised by a biologist and naturalist, who trained me in ecology and naturalist exploration from a very early age.  I began training horses when I was 8 years old, helping both my older sister and brother with their 4H horses before receiving my own at age 10.  My mentor was Howard Wentz, who was a founding trainer of  the Michigan State University Equine Management Studies Program.

When I attended college my Oriental Philosophy professor, a former Japanese Zen monk, believed it was extremely unusual that when I completed my assigned weekly meditation homework I had profound transpersonal and  "shared" consciousness experiences that the other students did not have.

These experiences in transpersonal consciousness became very intense over a period of several years in my early twenties, which led me to seek further help understanding them from Dr. John Mack, founder of the Center for Psychology and Social Change at Harvard University.  Dr. Mack had tremendous life and research experience in Transpersonal Psychology and Ecopsychology, and I worked with him over several years, coming into contact with other wonderful teachers, mentors and learning opportunities. At this time I also completed my B.A. in Geography, and worked as an activist and fundraiser with the Sierra Club, SaneFreeze, and Greenpeace.

In 1994,  I became a Reiki Master and began practicing animal communication.  In 1996, I received spiritual support and training in traditional healing ceremony with Grandfather Wallace Black Elk and  instruction in traditional Lakota ceremony and "mythology" with Harry Charger and Steve Red Buffalo.  I met Courtney Brown and began practicing Farsight Institute Remote Viewing protocols with friends.   I also began working at MIT in research group and grants administration while teaching Reiki part-time.  In 1997 I became a peer mentor for people in spiritual emergency, and trained in Evidential Spirit Mediumship at the Ayre Institute, the teaching body of the First Spiritualist Temple of Boston.

Over the next decade I worked on my animal communication skills part-time, by word of mouth and with friends who asked.  It was hard to personally reconcile being a "psychic" and "animal communicator" with being a scientifically minded and highly analytical person.  Being a Reiki Master was always viewed as a plus in the MIT community, but my animal communication and spirit mediumship activites were things I preferred to keep hidden from potentially skeptical eyes.

While developing my skills further, I took courses in equine anatomy and massage, completed an apprenticeship in therapeutic riding instruction, became a state licensed riding instructor,  shadowed an equine veterinary acupuncturist,  and undertook spiritually guided studies in herbalism, flower essences, and aromatherapy.

Finally, in 2005, I felt comfortable enough to hang out my "animal communicator" shingle and begin advertising my services online.  It has been a long road of training and incrementally gained self-acceptance, but I'm happy to finally get here!

What is it like to be a Telepath?

Everyone is a telepath.  So it's like being normal.  My mother, who is a complete skeptic, is also one of the most telepathically gifted people I know. The difference between us is that I recognize telepathic "mind-to-mind/energy to energy" communication when I receive it while she does not.

Being a professional telepath only involves additional training and practice in accurate recognition of where mental information, thoughts and feelings (both emotional and physical) originate from.  Our animals, being highly telepathic, pick up on our worries and fears very quickly.  Things we like to hide from ourselves - our animals love to bring into the light!  It is not healthy for us to keep our emotions bottled up and restrain ourselves from changing situations that are uncomfortable for us.  Our animals can feel every jot and tittle of our discomfort when we don't take care of ourselves.  For them, living with discomfort and "dis-ease" is irrational, but since they care so much about us, they are often willing to telepathically and energetically "share-the-load."

Will my animal tell me things I will not like?

This depends on how attached you are to hearing certain things from your animal.

Your animal will usually tell you the truth, or if not the truth, tell you the usual "story" they usually tell you that isn't true.  For example, if your animal is a cat who has been peeing in a certain unwanted spot in your home and then pretending your other cat did it and that the other cat is the "Bad Cat" for doing it, while they are the "Good Cat" and everything is wonderful and "nothing is wrong.... with me"...  they will probably tell me the exact same story!  I will not know whether or not the "story" is true, so if you know your animal is telling a "story", it will be up to you to bust them for it - and don't worry about offending me when you do it.

Similarly, if you are in the habit of telling yourself a certain "story" about how wonderfully you get along with your pet, when you actually are not getting along because your animal is engaging in behavior you do not understand or approve of, and you are complaining about it, your pet may call you that!

The vast majority of animal to human conversations are very sweet, loving and honest.  Even when your animal may be asking you for a different type of treatment, they are usually very gentle, loving and kind when they do it. They also leave the choice to change or not change something up to you - if you don't, for example, have the ability to move to a carrot farm and become a carrot farmer (something my horse once asked me to do) they will still completely love you and accept you as the "absolutely not going to become a carrot farmer" you are.  The important thing is that you are willing to listen and be open with your pet.  Perfection is not expected.

Will you work with my veterinarian?

Yes I will.  I am not a veterinarian, and sometimes the information I provide can best be utilized in conjunction with a veterinarian's skill and extensive knowledge base.

When have you found Reiki to be most effective for animals?

I started practicing Reiki with animals in an equine veterinary surgery clinic.  Working with a veterinarian, we found that if I sent Reiki to a horse who was experiencing the acute toxemia and shock of equine colic, when it was possible the horse would "poop" (defecate) - a very important activity in colic healing. Within 10 minutes of receiving a 10 minute Reiki treatment most horses treated with Reiki would poop.  Reiki seemed to allow horses to stabilize under treatment more quickly, which then allowed the veterinarian more time to evaluate whether or not surgery was required for a full healing.

I have found that Reiki works dramatically well for stabilizing animals who are experiencing shock of any kind and that it can allow both the owner and veterinarian more time to make decisions about what kind of care is most necessary during acute illness or after an accident.  Reiki can also help an animal prepare for surgery and experience an easier post-surgery recovery.

Do you use Reiki for emotional support for animals?

Absolutely.  The results can only be subjectively understood through owner's reports, but I have found that animals that have experienced emotional trauma do very well with a combination of Reiki and animal communication.  Reiki combined with animal communication helps lift and release stuck emotional energy.  Many owners report that their previously hardened and emotionally traumatized animals become softer and more trusting after a combination Reiki and animal communication session.  Many of my clients who are involved in the service of rescuing abused and neglected animals find that a combination session can help create a new emotional beginning for a rescued animal.

Can you communicate with animals in spirit?

Yes. Communicating with animals in spirit is a form evidential spirit mediumship and requires a set of skills an energetic step beyond Pet Telepathy. If you wish to communicate with an animal in spirit, please let me know in advance.  The process is slightly different and I will spend the entire reading with you on the phone, connecting you with your animal in spirit in real time.

If your pet has recently passed, it is important that you allow yourself time to grieve as well as allow your pet a little time to adjust to life in the spirit realm.  Letting me know in advance that this is the type of session you need will allow me to "check in" briefly with your animal and their spiritual help to ask when might be an appropriate time for a mediumship sitting with your pet.

Will you communicate with Lost Pets?

Lost pet communications are definitely the most challenging thing I have come across as an animal communicator.  Pets and owners are usually stressed and upset, and pets in particular have interesting and sometimes not very helpful ways of reporting information about their surroundings when they are frightened and operating in survival mode.  I often feel I am fighting between two polarities in lost pet communications.  One:  It is extremely important that I provide the most accurate information I can to the owner who is looking for the pet. and Two: Accurate, immediately actionable in terms of "find my pet!" information is difficult to come by because pets often perceive their place in the big wide world away from home very differently than humans perceive their place in the big wide world.

What appears to be important to an excited and frightened pet is often not the information that is needed or helpful to the owner looking for the pet.  They also experience and report their experience of time, and their chronological time away from home, very differently than humans expect.

On top of that - the big wide world is the big wide world.  Things that I see specifically about where the pet is, from the pets perspective,  can also look like other things in the big wide world.  And the pet may be moving through the place they describe and may go someplace else in the next moment.  Pinning down a moving animal in the big wide world is not easy.  I have enough trouble actually pinning down my own kitten when she escapes the house to hunt chipmunks and birds when I am physically standing three feet behind her..

Similarly some pets, (cats, for example) are fantastic hiders, they can hide in their own home, or the home next door, or a neighborhood garage, basement, porch, under shrubs and trees, in spaces between siding walls, windows, etc. for multiple days without detection.  They may be telling me where they are with some accuracy, but if they are hiding and not inclined come out of hiding or answer calls from their owner, the owner still may not be able to find them, even when they are in very close proximity to each other.

So, at this point, I am on the proverbial fence about providing communications for lost pets.  The only reason I still do so  (many communicators do not) is that sometimes the information I provide will specifically, and relatively quickly, lead to the return of the pet.   Right now (September 2009) this type of positive result seems to be happening in between a 1 in 4 and 1 in 5, ratio of all lost pet communications, or roughly a 20% to 25% success rate.

The majority of lost pet communications will be solved by other means  - flyers, talking to local vets, talking to neighbors, or the pet coming home on their own, or unfortunately... they will remain unsolved.

In the majority of cases, the support of the communication session may lead to a secondary find (through a local vet, talking to neighbors, etc.) or to emotional support through becoming resolved that the pet has moved on.

As a communicator, I tend to encourage clients to continue looking for their pets when I feel they are in the known area and still in a physical body.  I am very honest when I feel the pet is in spirit, and will not encourage a client to look for an pet in spirit.  However, clients need to be aware that it can take several days to several weeks to find a lost pet.  Giving up on a living pet within several hours or a couple of days after a communication because they have not found them yet is not something I will encourage as long as I feel the pet is still alive and I have indications they are looking in the right area and doing the right things to help their pet be found.

Welcome
